The Village. Agios Stefanos, Corfu, a small friendly community on the north-west coast of the island between Arillas and Sidari that boasts one of the best sandy beaches on the Ionion islands and is regarded as particularly safe for children. There are loungers and umbrellas for rent plus a water sports school for the more energetic. For those who want an overall tan a small discrete portion at the end of the beach is set aside. The village has all the facilities one would expect, including many tavernas offering Corfiot delicacies and International dishes. There are also several well-stocked mini-markets and two custom made discos. Tourist accommodation in the form of apartments and rooms can be rented for your holiday on the island. Take a trip like many holiday tourists and travel around. |

The old Ag. Stefanos! I remember it well. The first time I arrived in Ag. Stefanos was in 1967 and I stayed with my parents who had just bought the Villa Quietude with paraffin lamps and gas geysers. Ouzo cost 1 Drx and included a small meze. The village in those days had buildings that could be counted on two hands. The original families resident here were the Mouzakitis family who's children were Manthos (Manthos Taverna), Nikos (Golden Beach) and Stefanos (Condor). Only the Golden beach in it's original form was built. The second family Dino Mouzakitis had the Taverna Waves on the beach and it is run now by his son Angelos. The Third family was Kefalinos. The sons Spiro (Fisherman), Michaelis (Helena Supermarket) and Nikos (Tsaros pool-bar). The fourth family group was another Mouzakitis who's children were Vasillis (Margarita supermarket) and Leonidas (Leonidas villas) and their first cousin Dino (rent a car). The last family was the Hoy family (farmer) who's son Nikos married an English girl and now lives in the UK. Also working in the village was Vasillis Mouzakitis the father of Michaelis (coffee shop). He had a kiln and made bricks for the area from clay obtained from the further end of the beach. The kiln and brick making equipment was almost on the site of the present coffee shop. Read a satirical short story written by Helene, my mother in 1969 inspired by one of the local wild cats. Tatty the Greek Gavin Mackay.
