For shopping, the town offers a variety of shops. These vary from the small gift shops down the cobbled street and alley-ways to the exclusive Italian designer wear shops, selling leather wear and suits. The best buys generally are silver, gold and also leather goods such as handbags and sandals.

There are some good buys in Corfu and these include, leather goods, ceramics, fur coats and special bargains can be found in jewellery - many guests have discovered that when they have returned to England their purchase is indeed worth "more than its weight in gold". It is important to use a reputable jeweller.

It is worth bargaining in the small souvenir shops when you are choosing gifts to take home. You will also see an array of hand-woven and embroidered items. For example, hand woven door mats of wood and small carpets, tablecloths, napkins, aprons, skirts and blouses of lace and cotton (especially those woven in the Corfu Villages) are always popular. Good buys in this range are cotton needlework shawls and bedspreads also the heavy white stitched sweaters made on the Aegean Islands are popular.

Other Greek souvenirs that are worth considering include a strand of worry beads (single strands are called Begleri and double are Komboloy), typical Greek songs on CD or cassette, skewers for souvlaki (some are very elaborate) and Brikia, the long stemmed Turkish coffee pots.

Shops are open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 08:30 to 14:00 and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:30 to 13:30 and 17:00 to 20:30. On Sunday they are closed.

The banks are open Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 14:00 and Friday 08:00 to 13:30.
