Municipality of Achilion

Municipality of Achilion Perama and Benitses are major tourist resorts, while the Achillion Palace just outside Gastouri was the summer residence of the Empress Elizabeth of Austria and later Kaiser Wilhelm. Kaiser's Bridge between Perama and Benitses was where the Kaiser used to anchor his yacht.

Further south, Moraitika and Messonghi are popular resorts with good beaches; there are, incidentally, Roman ruins in Benitses and Moraitika. All routes south meet near Ag. Mattheos which has a monastery on top of the mountain of the same name, a prehistoric site and, nearby, the remains of a Byzantine castle (at Gardiki) and access to Lake Korission, Corfu's largest lake. There are excellent beaches at the lake continuing all the way south.
