Municipality of Parelion
Bathing on the beaches of Glyfada, Myrtiotissa, Agios Gordis. Kontovialos and Ermones, watching sunset from the Kaiser's Throne at Pelekas, strolling in the alleyways of Sinarades, Giannades. Marmaro and Kanakades, or even enjoying the company in a little taverna when the locals bring out the wine and pick up their guitars, you find yourself in the real Corfu, a place which will leave an impression for ever. And the Municipality of Pareli is ready to welcome you, to allow you to experience this superlative lifestyle. Ermones is set in small bay on the west coast with concealed rocks and forestcovered hillsides. Archaeological studies have uncovered traces of a Bronze Age settlement nearby, occupation in prehistoric times. You can enjoy this lovely beach with its cold, clear water. Agios Gordis is an extensive west coast beach with hotels, restaurants and bars which offer hospitality to the many visitors who unequivocally choose it for their holidays. The most impressive feature of Agios Gordis are the rocks at its northern end which the sea has sculpted into natural works of art. To the south of the beach stands the famous Ortholithos, an imposing rock which thrusts out of the sea. In recent years Glyfada has become one of the island's favourite beaches. A meeting place and reference point for the most fashion able people. Beach bar, beach volley, swimming, sports and fun until late. A steep, rough track descends from the village of Vatos to Myrtiotissa a beautiful little beach which is the choice of a select few. To the right (north) of the beach is the Monastery of the Virgin Myrtiotissa, founded n the 14th century by a Christianised Turkish monk. The name derives from an icon of the Virgin which was found here among the myrtles. Yialiskari: You'll find the junction which leads to Yialiskari on the road which links Pelekas with Sinarades. It is a little bay with pine trees which run down to the water's edge, a couple of small tavernas and bathing in crystalline water. Folk Museum of Central Corfu: A unique museum which was put together with expertise and passion by members of the Historic and Folkloric Society of Corfu. It was founded in 1989 in a traditional two-storey village house in the centre of Sinarades. The area has the only 18 hole golf course in Corfu. It also offers a
go-cart, cricket ground and an aquatic complex (Aqualand) with water slides,
swimming pool and bars. On the beaches you can practice water ski, scuba
dive, windsurf, or hire a sailing dinghy. There is also a biking center. |
