Weather Help and Information
We began accumulating weather data in July 1996, therefore there is no
archived data before this. Also, some data is missing - you will find
on occasion that there are empty data points on some graphs. In general
data is missed when either this server is offline, or the remote server
from which we get our weather data is unavailable.
Most temperature charts have bars divided into "actual" and
"feels like" temperature. At times where the temperature is
27 °C or over and humidity is above 40 %, it actually feels hotter than
the temperature recorded by the thermometer. Similarly, when the temperature
is less than 4 °C (yes, it occasionally is this cold here in winter!!)
and wind speed exceeds 5 mph, wind chill makes it feel colder than the
recorded temperature.
In most cases, and where browser compatability permits, hovering the
mouse over a data point will produce a "tool tip" against the
mouse pointer indicating the reading from the chart.
Most charts operate a "drill down" feature. This means that
clicking a data point on a chart loads another chart displaying finer
detail for the selected point. For instance, if you are viewing the average
temperatures for each month in a given year, clicking on say September
produces a chart of midday temperatures for the month of September, and
then clicking on a day in September leads to a chart of temperatures for
each hour of that day.
